I've purchased quite a few records lately so I felt a roundup of some of my favorite finds was in order. Between a trip to Rantoul's superb Backbeats, bet basketball WILL's Vintage Vinyl sale, and the offerings at Exile on Main Street and Parasol, I've loaded up with around 50 slabs of vinyl. It has been a good year so far for new music. Sure, there have been some disappointments (Peter, Bjorn and John; sportsbook The Hold Steady; The Decemberists; U2; Bruce Springsteen). But there have been a greater number of worthy releases from the likes of Super Furry Animals, Camera Obscura, Neko Case, Black Lips, M. Ward, A.C. march madness Newman, Andrew Bird, and Antony and the Johnsons, plus triumphant returns from Morrissey and Charlie Louvin.
